Innovation is the process of entrepreneurship which involves the translation of a useful idea into an application which has commercial value. It is not a single act — it takes persistent effort to work out analytically the details of the enterprise or service, to develop marketing strategies, to organise finances and strategize operations. Creativity supplies the idea; innovation converts it into commercial value.

The innovation process consists of four elements:

1. **Analytical planning** — This is the first element, where the entrepreneur carefully identifies the product or service features, its design, and the resources (financial, human and material) that will be needed. This stage defines the roadmap for the entire venture.

2. **Organising resources** — Here the entrepreneur obtains the required resources — raw materials, technology, human resources and capital — and arranges them into a workable structure so that development can begin.

3. **Implementation** — The planned resources are actually applied to accomplish the plans. This is the execution stage where the idea starts taking tangible shape and results are delivered.

4. **Commercial application** — In the final element, value is provided to customers, employees are rewarded and the stakeholders are satisfied. This is where the innovation acquires commercial value in the market.

Each element is interdependent — success at one stage builds the foundation for the next, and together they transform a useful idea into a commercially valuable application.
